Day 9 Update

Today was our first day in Berlin and our first day without a big train ride since Koblenz. We saw a ton today including the Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie, and one of the few remaining sections of the Berlin Wall left standing after the reunification in 1990. Tomorrow is the Jewish Museum, the GDR Museum and in the afternoon a soccer match in Olympic Stadium. Then tomorrow night we get on a train toward Fuessen (south of Munich). Next update might be a while since I’m not sure of the wireless situation for the next couple days.

Day 6 Update

We made our way from France to Germany on day 3 as expected. Since then we’ve been through Heidelberg, Trier, Rudesheim (a change from the original plan to let us see more castles), and now to Koblenz by way of the Rhine. Hope to get more pics posted tonight as the new ones posted today are still from France.

Day 2 done

Got a later start than expected since we have no Jeff on this trip to figure out the train system. Ended up on the 10:43 train to Caen rather than the 8:30. Still got to see several things in the area and we got into a tour for tomorrow (today actually). Went and saw Omaha Beach just in case the tour doesn’t give us enough time there. The beach is now just your average summer time hangout, but being there is still a powerful experience if your appreciate the history. We got to the American Cemetery just after it closed and if we don’t get back before we leave it will be something I really regret missing. Ended the night in a pub in Bayeux watching So. Africa shut out England in a World Cup rugby match (going on in Paris now),surrounded by irate Englishmen.

Day 1 is over

Didn’t do much interesting in Paris, as expected. Nothing here that I really felt was a must see anyway, and I’m way more beat after the flight than expected so we were in for the right by 8. Tomorrow is an early start for the train to Caen and Bayeux to see the Normandy beaches. Now some explanation of the pics of the hotel room. Easily the strangest European hotel room yet with a sort of master bedroom (just larger then a queen bed), a long hallway with two fold-away bunkbeds, a tiny triangular shower/sink room and an even tinier trapezoid toilet room.
